Le Corbusier - Machines for Living is a critical history of the furniture
of Le Corbusier based on documentary evidence and verified fact rather than upon
hearsay and supposition. It focusses not only on the models themselves by
describing in detail the stages of their industrial development but also attempts
to uncover the reason for their existence and relates how and why their intended
significance changed over the years.

From the summer of 1958, when she first me Le Corbusier in Cap Martin, until
today, Heidi Weber has worked tirelessly to popularize his work. She was the
first to have the 4 pieces of Le Corbusier's furniture industrially manufactered,
she published his graphic work, and she organised countless exhibitions devoted
to him. Le Corbusier himself designed a building especially for her collection:
the Heidi Weber Museum in Zurich, which she was opening in summer 1967; it is the
only "Gesamtkunstwerk" in the world. This volume documents her fifty years of
activity with illustrations of more than one hundred of Le Corbusier's works
from Heidi Weber's collection, including paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures,
tapestries, furniture, plans, and models. It not only tells the story of a woman
of tireless commitment and vision; it offers a fascinating synthesis of Le Corbusier's
works as a visual artist in all its countless aspects.
